How Fostering Works

Fosters Needed 2 (2)

Thank You for Considering the Lifesaving Act of Becoming a Foster

By volunteering to foster, you provide a safe, loving home for cats or kittens until they are adopted.
Hearts to Homes covers:
  • all veterinary costs;
  • provides food and litter;
  • provides support and guidance when needed.
Fostering can be a very rewarding experience. It helps save precious lives and is an important part of a program to reduce overpopulation.

How Long Can I Expect to Foster a Pet?

It depends. It can be a few weeks to a few months. A pregnant mom, for example, who has kittens in your home will usually be with you 12 – 14 weeks, while a sick or injured cat may be with you 8 – 16 weeks.

What are the Responsibilities of a Foster Family?

Provide a safe, clean, and caring environment.

Provide food, water, exercise and socialization as appropriate.

Monitor any medical and/or behavioral problems and provide any medications as directed.

If you drive, assist with transport to/from adoption events or vet visits.

Facilitate 'meet & greets' in your home with potential adopters so they can meet  a cat in the environment the cat is comfortable in .
