Moose

STATUS: Adopted

Meet Moose! Moose is a 3-year-old sweetheart who loves to cuddle. He was driveway-surfing when we found him, splitting his time between different decks and backyards in the downtown area and getting into fights. Now in foster care, he has given up his rough-and-tumble days and is embracing his inner couch potato. He is a major snuggler, and he loves nothing more than settling down in your lap for some affection and attention. He has a very distinct meow, and he isn’t shy about letting you know when he’d like some TLC.

Moose’s streetfighting days have left him FIV positive. FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus) is a feline-only, slow-acting virus that compromises the cat’s immune system over time. Because the immune system is compromised, you need to stay on top of any possible infections, and ensure the cat is seen by a vet at least annually…just like any other pet in your household! FIV cannot be transmitted to people or other animal species. It is passed from cat to cat through deep bite wounds, as you would see in aggressive territory fights. FIV is not passed between cats through casual contact like sharing food bowls or litter boxes, playing, play-fighting, or licking. FIV positive cats can live with non-FIV cats without fear of infection provided the cats are not aggressive with one another. Previously, FIV was a death sentence; cats like Moose were considered to be “high-risk and low-reward”. However, we know now that FIV cats can live long, happy lives without sharing the virus with others– they often live as long as cats without the virus! Do you have room in your heart and your home for Moose? He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and tested negative for FELV. His adoption fee is $100, and we are also considering long-term foster applications in the right home.
